Limited Energy Audit/ Potential Savings Analysis

Energy consumption is always a concern as it is a major player on the expenses of any household or business. Most of the time it's the utility bill the “tool” that's used to keep track of the consumption. An increase in the cost, if not related to tariff increments, is always a signal of a potential problem. The source of such potential problem could be one or a combination of equipment inefficiencies, home energy performance issues and changes in our consumption pattern, identifying it is important to establish a solution. Yet source identification is not a straightforward process. 

When performing a Limited Energy Audit, we will look for energy “leakages” using infrared technology and/or air leakage analysis. We’ll also examine major appliances and lighting as well as swimming pool and spa equipment. 

A Potential Savings Analysis use proprietary software to detect issues related to your electricity consumption pattern. It allows to calculate the Energy Cost Reduction if one or a combination of the following solutions are taken, adoption of Time of Use electrical tariff, installation of a Home Management System and installation of a Photovoltaic (Solar) System.

Load Control

Once there is more than one energy consuming equipment, load control brings the organization needed to keep overall energy consumption and peak demand within defined levels. It does have a great impact for commercial and industrial businesses whose energy tariff charges both energy (kWh) and demand (kW). The latter, which is the maximum energy consumed within a 15 minute period of the month, can amount to more than 50% of the month's bill. After an analysis of loads and operation priorities, the solution can include timing control, equipment upgrades, and a parallel energy source.

(PVS) Photovoltaic Systems

PVS Inspections

The return of the investment made into a Photovoltaic system rests on the quality of both the design and installation. A poor design, which includes the selection of equipment and balance of the system, can increase its cost and reduce its overall efficiency. A poor installation can void equipment warranty, leading to safety hazards, increase on maintenance cost, and also decrease the overall system efficiency. The role of a NABCEP certified inspector is to make sure that every single detail that makes a perfect system has been taken into account. Inspections also detect conditions that lead to future failure and define corrective measures.

PVS Cleaning

Photovoltaic module manufacturers use up to date technologies to make their modules as self-cleaning as possible. However, angle of installation, characteristics of surrounding areas, and common pollution work continuously against it. The reduction of energy production due to soiling is NOT the only reason of why you should clean your solar modules. Allowing dirt to build up over time is what matters, as it increases the erosion of the protective coating of the modules, permanently reducing its transparency. It also allows the formation of "hot spots", which damage the internal cells. Cleaning should be done with proper tools to avoid mechanical damage to the module's surface and with proper soaps to avoid corrosion of the module frame and system's raking components. Water temperature should be controlled as to avoid thermal shocks in the solar module that will permanently damage it and void its warranty.
